John Campbell Handly Gravesite Dedication
Warrensburg, MO ……The decendents of Lafayette County Pioneer John Campbell Handly invite the public to the gravesite Dedication recognizing his Civil War military service. The Dedication will take place September 8, 2013 in at 3:00 P.M. the Zion Hill Cemetery on Route YY in southern Lafayette County. Darrell L. Maples, Commmander, MO Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans will preside over the ceremony, ehich will include an address by LTS James A. Shelby (ret.). The ceremony will be accompanied by Civil War re-enactor’s including Elliot’s Scouts and Missouri 2nd Artillery – CSA. Decendants of Mr. Handly will partici;ate as well, including 4th great grandchildren who will unveil the updated grave marker.
From I-70’MO 13 ( Higginsville) intersection, proceed southbound on MO 13 approx. 5 milesto the state Route YYintersection. Turn left; proceed eastbound on YY approx. 4 miles to the Zion Hill church and Cemetery. Parking will be limited; carpooling and lawn chairs are encouraged. Period dress is acceptable. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved into the Zion Hill Church.
