Missouri’s Own 8th Infantry to be Featured at Ft. Donelson

June 29th is the date: Ft. Donelson National Battlefield, Dover, Tennessee, is hosting a re-enactment group from Missouri that honors the memory of the Eighth Missouri Volunteer Infantry (Union). The men of the real-life regiment, mostly Irishmen and mostly recruited in St. Louis, had a distinguished service that included the battles of Fort Donelson and Vicksburg. This was the first western Civil War regiment to be organized as a “Zouave” regiment.
Scheduled programs and times for the Saturday, June 29th, event are: Period camp of the 8th Missouri open of visitors – 11:00 am to 4:00 pm; Military and historic weapons firing – Noon, 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
